COVID-19 vaccine administered to employees of 12 maquiladoras in Nuevo Laredo

The vaccine against COVID-19 has been administered to personnel from 12 maquiladoras in Nuevo Laredo as part of the program implemented by entrepreneurs in the sector in collaboration with Mexican and U.S. authorities in the northern region of Tamaulipas. This program was initiated as a pilot plan last week.

Nearly 1,200 doses of Johnson & Johnson pharmaceuticals were administered to the personnel of the Maquiladora and Manufacturing Export Industry (index) plants in the municipality, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico in Laredo and the mayor of the Texan city, Pete Saenz.

During this vaccination campaign, employees from companies such as Medline Products, Fromex, Chromalox, Smurfit Kappa, Unitrade, TKR, Oscar Peña Customs Agency, Muris Salinas Consultores, Hessen Logistics, Carlos Montes de Oca, Feroly Customs Agency, AFS Customs Agency, and personnel from the Mexican Customs were immunized.

The employees arrived at the Juárez-Lincoln international bridge in buses equipped with bathrooms and air conditioning. They were vaccinated against COVID-19 onboard the buses and waited for the designated time according to the vaccine reaction protocol. Subsequently, they returned to Mexico with the support of the Nuevo Laredo Customs to facilitate the crossing.

"The General Consulate of Mexico and index Nuevo Laredo express their deep gratitude to local CBP officials, who at all times provided facilities and support to make this vaccination process possible," stated the business organization.

The logistics in Nuevo Laredo were entirely handled by index Nuevo Laredo. The logistical cost of administering the vaccine against COVID-19 was covered by the companies, which reflects the social responsibility of employers in this industry.

A week ago, the pilot vaccination program against coronavirus took place at the Juárez-Lincoln Bridge, administered by the Quick Penny Investments organization. The doses were obtained through the efforts of Laredo Mayor Pete Saenz, facilitated by the Health Department led by Richard Chamberlain, and with the support of Fire Chief Guillermo Heard.
