Mexico remains as the first trade partner of the United States

According to the report, in the first five months of the year, the trade relationship between Mexico and its northern neighbor amounts to US$262,812 million, with US$153,416 million in imports and US$109,396 million in exports.

Mexico remained as the first trading partner of the United States, according to the exchange reports from January to May 2021, published this Friday by the Ministry of Economy.

Through her social networks, Luz María de la Mora, Mexico's Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, said: ""More reasons to celebrate! Just one day after celebrating the first anniversary of the USMCA, once again, we have positioned ourselves as the main trading partner of the U.S.".

The official accompanied her message with an image of the latest balance of trade exchanges from January to May 2021 involving the United States and its top five global partners.

Trade Figures

According to the report, in the first five months of the year, the trade relationship between Mexico and its northern neighbor amounted to $262,812 million dollars, with US$153,416 million in imports and US$109,396 million in exports.

Meanwhile, Canada engaged in exchanges worth US$257,934 million, with US$121,825 million in exports and US$136,109 million in imports.

Close behind was China, the third largest U.S. trading partner, totaling US$248,674 million during the first five months of the year, with US$189,689 million in imports and US$58,985 million in exports.

Japan reported exports of US$$30.324 billion and imports of US$$55.704 billion, totaling US$$86.028 billion in trade with the United States.

Finally, trade with Germany amounted to US$$80.05 billion, of which US$$26.149 billion corresponded to exports and US$$53.902 billion to imports.
